Exodus World Service
Exodus was founded in 1988 when members of an Evanston church group sponsor a Laotian family. Within a few years, members of the church sponsored more than 300 refugees from all parts of the world. Exodus:
· Educates local churches about refugee ministry, connect volunteers in relationship with refugee families through practical service projects, and equips leaders to speak up on behalf of refugees.
· Recruits local volunteers, equips them with information and training, and then links them directly with refugee families newly arrived in the Chicago metropolitan area.
· Provides training and tools for front-line staff of other refugee service agencies. Offers several innovative programs for use by volunteers as they minister to refugees such as:
Welcome to America! Pack. A collection of basic household items and a first month's supply of food staples. Volunteers collect and assemble the packs and deliver them to newly arrived refugee families.

New Neighbor Program. This one-on-one program matches a newly arrived refugee with a volunteer to build bridges of understanding, learning, and friendship between people of different cultures. Volunteers meet weekly for 3 months to spend time together and to help answer questions about life in the United States with their refugee partners.
Citizenship Program. Trained volunteers meet one-on-one with refugees and immigrants to help them learn the English and U.S. History needed to qualify for citizenship.

Training Opportunities. Classes are periodically offered to train volunteers in cross-cultural communication skills, teaching English as a Second Language skills, and tutoring in citizenship classes.

Church Partnerships. This program offers congregations an opportunity to bring hope and help to refugee families by developing an ongoing refugee ministry in their congregations.
